The Dream Page

LEONARDO'S MOVIES

"The dream, alone, is of interest
For what is life, without a dream?"

     - Edmond Rostand

A Reel Dreamer.....A poem by Claudia....

Before our eyes, on a silver screen
He comes to us as one who's seen.

A poet, a lover, a man, a boy -
Bringing to millions, hours of joy.
He shares his dream with those so willing,
To be led to places romantic or chilling.

In a darkened theatre, us he transports
To ships, the West, a King and his courts.
He changes his colors so like a chameleon,
And allows us to glimpse the soul the man.

His dreams are his and his alone,
And through his craft a light he's shone
Upon a waiting world so hungry for beauty
That many consider his gift a duty.

Yet the dreamer dreams, and inspires those
Who want to travel the path he chose.
He walks in beauty like the night
Always holding out for a part that's just right.

As integrity and art collide
How rare to find a man who places passion and pride
Above the lure of quick money or an easy part
And how fortunate for those who witness the master and his art.

How can one man so young inspire
Countless people who can admire
His beauty, intelligence, wit and grace,
A man who is more than a beautiful face.

To do, to dream, to lay yourself bare
And to share that dream is a gift so rare,
With thanks and awe we give a hand
To the actor, the artist, the sensitive man.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

Frank Abagnale's story is thrilling, engaging, and amusing as he becomes the world's most renowned con man and the youngest man to ever make the FBI's Most Wanted list. The movie will reunite Leo with director Lasse Hallstrom and will begin production in March, 2002.

GANGS OF NEW YORK

Amsterdam Vallon has one goal and that's vengence for his father's brutal murder at the hands of Bill the Butcher; a murder he was forced to participate in and witness when he was 12 years old. The movie is due to be released on December 21, 2001.

DON'S PLUM

A group of friends get together for an informal evening at their favorite hangout. This movie's domestic release was blocked but the international release occurred at the German Film Festival in the Spring of 2001

THE BEACH

Richard sets out in search of paradise, but instead he comes face to face with his inner demons in this intriguing tale of innocence lost. Released in February, 2000

CELEBRITY

Brandon is an energetic, spoiled punk rock star with a penchant for parties, women and good times. He makes his entrance with a burst of energy and fury a full hour into the movie. The on screen energy fizzles with his departure just a little over 15 minutes later.

MAN IN THE IRON MASK

A swashbuckling tale full of fun and adventure! King Louis is spoiled, self indulgent and possesses nothing of what it takes to be a "good King". Phillipe is sensitive, caring, and possesses all of the qualities Louis lacks. At times, on screen, those characteristics that separate the two can only be seen in their eyes.

TITANIC

Simply stated..The Movie of the Century and The Character of the Millenium! Jack Dawson is a charismatic, penniless third class passenger aboard the Titanic. He meets and falls in love with an upper class aristocrat who is desperate to be "set free". The love story that occurs between Jack and Rose will forever be one of the most beautiful love stories in the history of films.

MARVIN'S ROOM

The critics agreed; An Oscar worthy performance! Lee got more than she expected from a trip to Florida to help her estranged sister, and Hank's ensuing relationship with his Aunt Bessie changed both his life and that of his less than adequate mother. It's a heartwarmingly funny, touching story of family relationships, coping with illness, and most of all...love.

ROMEO & JULIET

The world's most passionate and powerful Romeo! Leonardo and his on screen Juliet, played perfectly by Claire Danes, take Shakepeare's tragic love story and set it in modern times under the genius direction of Baz Luhrmann. The language is Shakepeare, the style is hip MTV, and the story is the most famous and tragic of all love stories.

THE QUICK AND THE DEAD

The Kid is both cocky and vulnerable! One of Leonardo's most famous quotes came from the production of this movie. When asked by an interviewer what it was like to be kissed by Sharon Stone, he said kiddingly, "Well it was better than a bag of snot!" But Ms. Stone wanted Leo so badly for this role that she reportedly gave up some of her salary to make it happen. He turned out to be one of the few "bright spots" in that production.

TOTAL ECLIPSE

"Impassioned by genious. Inflamed by desire. Imprisoned by love." Leonardo's Rimbaud takes us on a difficult and ferocious journey into the dark and troubled inner torment of this 19th century genius whose poetry would change the face of modern culture, and whose influence is still being felt today. It's also the story of a relationship between two men who shared a passion for life's experiences through their poetry but whose relationship became brutal and emotionally as well as physically destructive.

BASKETBALL DIARIES

Jim showed the world that your first mistake doesn't have to be your last! It's a tough, dark portrayal of Jim Carroll's true story based loosely on his autobiography. Jim is a young poet and a basketball star who sinks deeply into the dark world of drugs, but the heart of the story is how his spirit beats the odds and eventually triumphs.

WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE?

This character is now the measure of how a mentally challenged character should be played; it was to "perfection"! Arnie Grape is a funny, unusual character with funny, unusual and often distressing habits. He needs constant supervision and is a constant commitment for his entire family, especially his older brother Gilbert. This is purely a character film that relies wholly on those characters to see it through to the end, and it succeeds beautifully under the superb direction of Lasse Hallstrom.

THIS BOY'S LIFE

Tobey gave all children hope that a strong inner spirit cannot be crushed by words or a fist! Tobias Wolff's memoirs of his "growing up" years include at the heart of this story, his tumultuous relationship with his stepfather Dwight (DeNiro), who tries to overpower Tobey with emotional and physical brutality. It was Leonardo's breakthrough performance, one that made the industry stand up and take notice. "Tobias is agreeable, raucous, foolish and winsome, and this splendid actor finds every right note in every single scene." ( Matinee Magazine's Jason Clark)
